Stephen Biggs is a trusted trial attorney, effective appellate advocate, and creative problem solver. He helps individuals and businesses protect their reputation, safeguard their intellectual property, economically resolve disputes, and manage risk.
Whether you are an individual or a business, your good name matters. The ubiquitousness of the internet and the proliferation of social media platforms has made it easier than ever for harmful, negative statements to be communicated to large audiences instantaneously. Stephen understands how to navigate the delicate balance defamation law strikes between freedom of speech and protecting people and businesses from reputational harm caused by false accusations. He uses this comprehension to effectively assist individuals and businesses in protecting their reputation when others defame, slander, or libel them, and to zealously defend those who have been accused of defamation, slander, or libel.
In addition to reputation, another valuable asset of every business and entrepreneur is intellectual property. Stephen helps businesses and entrepreneurs protect their intellectual property through trademark registrations, nondisclosure agreements, and other contractual arrangements. He is also adept in prosecuting and defending against claims of trademark infringement, counterfeiting, false advertising, trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement, and other forms of unfair competition related to intellectual property rights.
While litigation can be a necessary step in resolving a legal dispute, Stephen recognizes it is not always the best or most cost-effective solution. That is why he works hard to help his clients take proactive steps to prevent and protect against legal problems before they occur and engage in early negotiation with adverse parties to resolve problems that do arise before they become expensive lawsuits. But when litigation is necessary or a legal action has already been filed, Stephen knows how to build a winning case for his clients. An experienced trial lawyer, Stephen regularly litigates cases involving contract disputes, false advertising, fraud and other misrepresentation claims, business management disputes, business ownership disputes, failed business deals, breach of fiduciary duty claims, conversion claims, and the like.
Stephen is also an experienced appellate lawyer. He has written scores of appellate briefs and argued numerous appeals before federal and state courts of appeal, including the United States Courts of Appeal for the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, the Arizona Supreme Court, the Arizona Court of Appeals, and the California Court of Appeal.
In addition to the above practice areas, Stephen has also developed a niche practice representing workers’ compensation insurance carriers in Arizona and Utah in protecting and enforcing their statutory lien and subrogation rights. He has helped his clients recover partial or full reimbursement of the benefits they paid on hundreds of workers’ compensation claims from the third parties responsible for causing the industrial injuries that gave rise to those workers’ compensation claims.
But most importantly, Stephen is a husband and father. He enjoys spending his spare time with his wife and five children, who help provide balance and perspective to his life.
