BIOGRAPHY
In addition to his duties as managing attorney of our firm, Mike concentrates in the area of commercial transactions, primarily in strategic planning, business solutions, real estate and finance. He regularly writes and speaks on these subjects. His articles include "Real Estate Financing: Current Trends and Opportunities", "An Attorney's Role in Financing" and "How Safe Are Escrow Deposits for Real Estate Transactions?" Prior to entering private practice in 1967, Mike served for one year as law clerk to Judge Henry S. Stevens at the Arizona Court of Appeals. Mike is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and Maricopa County Bar Association. He is also active in several community organizations, including The Thunderbirds, and he is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, Inc.
Examples of Mike's legal work are as follows:
- Prepared a Development Agreement between a landowner and the Town of Buckeye that was adopted by the Town of Buckeye as a form for future development agreements.
- Structured and documented two complex purchase and sale agreements for landowners to sell 13,260 acres of development land to a foreign purchaser after completing the entitlement process.
- Represented the owner of a New York City landmark hotel in the sale and tax deferred exchange under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code into multiple commercial income properties in Phoenix, AZ.
- Introduced a client to a large pension plan, and structured and documented a loan participation agreement between the client and pension plan for a commercial lending program.
- Closed HUD insured loans for multifamily housing projects on behalf of borrowers for an aggregate loan amount in excess of one billion five hundred million dollars.
